James Polack

In 2005 James was awarded a University of Sydney Scholarship to study trumpet at the Sydney Conservatorium. He has been the recipient of various other Conservatorium prizes and is now in his fourth and final year completing an honours degree. His teachers include Bruce Hellmers and Daniel Mendelow.

James has been a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra since 2005 and in 2007 was selected to be principal trumpet for their tour of France, Germany and The Netherlands and played concerts in Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and the Berlin Konzerthaus among other venues.

James has played with many of the orchestras in Sydney and around the country including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Sinfonia and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, with which he is a regular casual. James is also very passionate about playing chamber music; he plays regularly at Conservatorium concert series, music and arts festivals, weddings and other functions.

Next year James has plans to travel to Chicago to further his study of music at Northwestern University. He aspires to become a principal trumpeter in a major orchestra in Australia or overseas.
