David Stefano

A native of the United States, David Stefano has lived in Australia since 2004. He earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Indiana University (USA) in modern bassoon performance under the tutelage of Professors Kim Walker (currently the Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium) and Andrew Barnes. He was a finalist in both the Columbus (Ohio) Symphony and Indiana University Woodwind Concerto Competitions in various years, and served as principal bassoon with the Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra on their tours of Canada and central Europe.

David has performed with the Willoughby Symphony, the Sydney Chamber Choir, the Newcastle University Chamber Choir, the Eastern Sydney Chamber Orchestra, the Sydney Youth Orchestra; and regularly performs on baroque bassoon with the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs. He was a member of the Sydney Conservatorium Modern Music Ensemble in 2004-2005 and has been a member of the Conservatorium Early Music Ensemble since 2006.

David is currently a Ph.D. student at the Sydney Conservatorium in the field of baroque bassoon performance, under the primary tutelage of Simon Rickard, Jane Gower, Daniel Yeadon and Neal Peres da Costa.
