Colin Grisdale

Colin Grisdale began playing the trumpet at age 8 under Mr Raymond Gallagher at York Primary School in Penrith. He won his first eisteddfod that year and has gained many awards and scholarships since then including many National Band Association state and national solo titles. After being accepted into the Conservatorium of Music High School Colin was taken on tour of the United States as a guest solo artist with the Sydney Schools Singers performing in many venues and functions in Washington, New York and Los Angeles. In 1999 he performed as a solo artist in the School Spectacular at the Sydney Entertainment Centre whilst also appearing as a soloist in Primary choral and Secondary Music festival at the Sydney Opera House in 1998 and 2000 as well as performing on channel 10’s Good Morning Australia program that year.

After gaining his A.musA with distinction at the age of 16, Colin, in the Higher School Certificate achieved a perfect score in 3 unit music extension and was selected to perform in encore at the Sydney Opera House as well as touring Spain as principal trumpet of the SBS Youth Orchestra. Colin has also toured South America and New Caledonia as principal trumpet of the Sydney Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra, while spending four years as principal trumpet of the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra. He has worked for the English Royal Ballet as well as being a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra. More recently Colin performed the Hummel Trumpet Concerto as soloist with Sydney Conservatorium Orchestra as well as gaining his L.musA. He is currently working as a freelance musician in Sydney doing session work, Brass Quintet, recordings, solo performance, Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, Sydney Philharmonia Choir Orchestra as well as teaching and conducting.
