Pianist Bethany Cook studied with David Miller and Elizabeth Powell at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music before winning scholarships to The Royal Academy of Music, London, studying with Michael Dussek and gaining a Masters of Music with Distinction, majoring in piano accompaniment.
Bethany won the Evelyn German Prize, the Kate Leventon Memorial Prize, was awarded the outstanding Piano Accompaniment Final Recital and was supported by grants from the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust, the Foundation for Young Australians and The Ian Potter Trust. As a freelance musician in London she, was pianist for a number of chamber groups, performed for competitions, recitals, and summer schools and toured with soloists and ensembles in Europe and America.
In Australia Bethany won the Pianist’s Prize and accompanied the winner of the Mietta Song Recital Competition in Melbourne. She has broadcast on ABC Young Australia and Sounds Australian and performed as recitalist for Music Clubs on the North and South Coasts of New South Wales.
Now based in Sydney Bethany has worked with many music organisations including the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, The Omega Ensemble, Sydney Children’s Choir and Philharmonia Choir, Sydney Flute Festival and Kurrawong Ensemble. Bethany is a member of the Musica Viva in-schools ensemble Jacana and holds the position of Accompanist and Chamber Musician in the award-winning music department at MLC School.
