Melanie Walters

Melanie Walters began learning the flute at age 10, studying with Tanya Slattery, Emma Knott and Roberta Hamilton in Wollongong. She completed a Bachelor of Music (Honours) at the University of Sydney in 2003 studying with Rosamund Plummer and holds the Licentiate Diploma in flute and the Associate Diploma in piano from the AMEB.  She was a member of the Sydney University Symphony Orchestra from 2000 until 2003 (principal flute 2002 & 2003) and performed the Carl Nielsen concerto with the orchestra in 2002. She has also been a member of the Stables Ensemble, the Sydney 2000 Olympic Marching Band, Sydney Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, SBS singers 2000 orchestra (Wollongong) and the Tivoli Orchestra (in concert with Judi Connelli and Suzanne Johnston). Since completing her degree, Melanie has given solo performances in concerts for the Kiama and District Arts Council, the Arcadians Theatre Group, the Lamplighters choir, and in recital, and has also played with the Illawarra Choral Society, Arcadians Theatre Group, Roo Theatre, the University of Wollongong Creative Arts Department and at the Mungindi Music Festival. She attended the Australian International Summer Orchestral Institute in 2007 and will be participating in the Oxford Flute Summer School Advanced Course in August this year.
