Kaylie is currently completing her fourth year of the performance course at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Kaylie's home town is Wollongong where she was introduced to the percussion family in a primary school concert. Soon after, she started weekly lessons under Iain Scotland and continued to gain a wide range of musical experiences. As a member of the City of Wollongong Brass band, Kaylie took part in numerous state and national competitions and claimed the Open state solo championship at the age of 15.
Other ensembles significant to Kaylie's musical development were Sydney Youth Philharmonic and Sydney Youth Orchestra, SBS Youth Orchestra and ensembles tied to the HICES Music Festival and Playerlink Program. Kaylie is currently a member of the Wollongong Symphony, a semi-professional orchestra under the direction of Carlos Alvarado. In her HSC year, Kaylie competed in the NSW Secondary Schools Concerto Competition and performed as one of the finalists with the Ku-ring-Gai Philharmonic Orchestra. She participated in memorable performances in the World Youth Day CASPA Orchestra in July.
In 2006, Kaylie deferred her studies at the conservatorium and travelled to Europe for 2 months, partaking in 3 summer masterclasses. More recently Kaylie spent 2 weeks in New York last year and met up with Jonathan Haas, virtuoso timpanist, Steve Schick, solo percussionist and other percussion lecturers at Manhattan and Julliard music schools.
As well as performing Kaylie loves teaching and wishes to make this a prominent part of her career. She is currently tutoring at a number of schools around Sydney and assists on band camps throughout the year.
