Nicole Murphy

Brisbane-based composer Nicole Murphy completed undergraduate studies at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University under the direction of composer Gerard Brophy. She graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours in Composition. She has recently returned to studies, commencing the Masters of Music program in 2007, under composer Gerardo Dirie.
Nicole is the recipient of various awards, including the A.G. Francis Prize for Composition (2001), the Inaugural Alan Lane Award for Composition (2004), and Inaugural Collusion/QCGU Composition Prize, for her setting of Australian writer John Tranter’s work The Moment of Waking (2004).


In recent years, Nicole has written works for Brisbane-based ensembles Amphis and Shamus, collaborated with choreographer Timothy Harbour, producing a new work for the Australian Ballet’s BodyTorque series, and was commissioned for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s 2008 Cybec Composers program.
