Matthew Shlomowitz (b. 1975) is a composer of concert music and performance pieces. Raised in Adelaide, Australia, he now lives in London where he lectures at the Royal College of Music and Syracuse University London Program. He studied at the Sydney Conservatorium with Bozidar Kos, privately with Michael Finnissy, and at Stanford University where Brian Ferneyhough supervised his doctorate.
He co-directs the Anglo/Belgian new music ensemble Plus Minus (with Joanna Bailie), is a member of Inter Inter Inter, a group creating events mixing performance and audience activity, and co-founded the inter-art performance series Rational Rec, which he co-directed (with Cecilia Wee and Russell Martin) from 2005–2008. He is also Programme Collaborator for the Borealis Festival in Bergen, Norway.
He has composed works for Ah! you sitting, comfortably, asamisimasa, Apsara, Champ D’Action, Duo Vertigo, ELISION, Ensemble Offspring, IXION, Libra Ensemble, Ricciotti Ensemble and is currently writing works for the Ives Ensemble and Quatuor Diotima. He is represented by the New Voices scheme at the BMIC.
