Luke Styles

Born 1982 in Sydney Australia Luke Styles has been an enthusiastic musician since the age of 7, turning primarily to composition at age 18. He moved to the United Kingdom in 2001, to pursue a BMus (composition) degree at the Royal Academy of Music, following which he completed a postgraduate degree with Detlev Müller-Siemens in Vienna. He now continues study with Prof. Wolfgang Rihm in Karlsruhe, Germany. Luke has been the recipient of numerous awards and commissions both in Europe and internationally, including, the Wolfgang-Rihm-Scholarship of the Privatbrauerei Hoepfner 2008, Darmstadt international summer course for new music full scholarship 2008, Arts Council England Scholarship 2008/2009, DAAD scholarship for 06/07, Prize Winner ‘Remasterpiece’ Competition 2006, Commission by the Sonic Arts Network to produce a new work for their annual music festival (2005 in Scarborough), Young Australian Composer of the Asian Composers League (2003) and Australasian Performing Rights Association Professional Development Award winner amoungst many more. Recent performances have seen Luke’s music played throughout the world with radio broadcasts on the ACB, BBC3, and SWR2.
